Another Meghan’s Wrap, Hand knit Shawl

I just finished another Meghan’s Wrap. It is knit in Sockittome (brown) from Cherry Tree Hill and the white is a yarn is from Yarn2Dye4.

The pattern is easy to knit and fast! It takes a bit of getting used to knitting sock yarn on size US 10 1/2 needles and moves along quickly once you do. A nice drape results from such open knitting

Instead of adding the beads up the fringe as I did on my first wrap, I put three beads on the end of each fringe. Hand knit scarf with beaded fringe

More Twined Knitting with beads!

Finally some good photos of the twined mittens I knit.

These were knit in Gems Merino sport weight and I used 5 different kinds of beads for the design.

The beads in the cuff were knit in. . . the beads on the back of the hand were crocheted on.

I am so enamored with this twined knitting thing. . .wait till you see the neck cowls I’ve been twining!

Twined Knitting

Well, I must say I LOVE how this knittin looks. I even got used to spinning the ball of yarn to untwist it.

For my recent birthday my family gave me the book “twined Knitting, a Swedish Folkcrafrt Technique”. It was too expensive for my blood but I love this book. Now I have to return the copy I was using to the Textile Center Library.

A friend commissioned these mittens to match a new coat.

The mitts were knit in black, Gems Merino DK weight yarn. For some reason my camera didn’t work very well. I’ll need to get better photos!!

The beads on the cuff were knit in as I went. Notice how I did the thumb gusset. I wanted these to be a one of a kind!

Here they are after I crocheted beads onto the back of the mitts. The coat these were made to match is red with half  circle designs in black. I think the mitts match very well. Now I just need to figure out what is wrong with my cameral!

Beaded hand knit socks

I had fun this summer knitting with beads. I forgot I knit these fun socks until it got cold enough to wear them. What a treat to find hand knit socks ready-to-wear in this cool weather.

The pink ones are knit in Liisu Yarn. This sock yarn is left over from my Fingerless Glove pattern. In the Glam Glove pattern I describe three ways to add beads to knitting. If you have a favorite plain sock pattern, try adding a beaded anklet! Even my sturdy peasant ankles, (great for support while dancing but not as skinny as current design deems attractive) look great adorned by beaded anklets.

The blue socks are knit in Cherry Tree Hill yarn left over from the swing jacket that I knit.

I bought the beads for these socks at a great bead store in St. Paul, Storm Cloud Bead Company, located on Snelling at Minnehaha Avenue. Really fun place to go! I took about a yard of yarn with me to the store and shopped around until I found beads that fit the yarn and in the color I wanted.

I also found that I didn’t want to keep moving a bunch of beads down the yarn while knitting the cuff and sock leg so I knit to where I wanted the beads, cut the yarn, strung the beads, and then continued knitting. The ankle bracelet on the blue socks is not as wide as the one on the pink sock. But I think they both look great!

Happy knitting,

Shawn

Knitting with beads again!

I had some fun yesterday! I was meeting friends for dinner to celerate two birthdays. I woke up in the morning wondering what I could knit that they would like….hmmm…I’ve really been having fun knitting with beads lately so I wanted to do something with beads. Not socks because I had to come up with a project I could finish in a day…no wait…I had to be able to finish two in a day. AHAH! They both work at computers, how about coasters for their coffee/tea/soda? That’s it!

Here’s one

The color of beads wouldn’t have been my first choice for the two friends I had in mind but these were what I had on hand. (Who has time to run to the bead store when there is knitting to be done?) The top one measures 4 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches, the bottom is 6 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches. The top one seems to be a better size. Putting the beads on the yarn took about 1 1/2 hours for each one and the knit time was only 1 hour each! That’s nothing! Can’t wait to get more beads and make some more….watch out family, I know what I’m knitting for christmas.

They were SUPER FUN to knit. As I was doing it I daydreamed about all the different graphic designs I could knit. I bet I could design colorful patterns that would be hell to knit but really fun to bead!

I have a fun coloring book of optical illusions that I’ve often tried to graph for knitting but because of the angle of the lines, it never transferred to knitting. But NOW, I can do it in beads, maybe. Happy Friday everyone!

Read All About It!
I finally did it. I have a pattern for sale on line at Lulu
It is a pattern of beaded fingerless gloves I knit using yarn from Liisu Yarn
I knit these Glam Gloves in Cherries Jubilee, Leili yarn. This yarn was so nice to knit with I can’t wait to order more.

The “ring” is a mother-of-pearl button that a friend made for me about 12 years ago. I so happy to finally be able to use it!
The beads for the bracelets are from EarthFaire This sight has tons of different beads for sale (among other things) and lots of great inspirational projects!
Here is a close up of the bracelets. (sorry about the blurry photos)

I just love these brass hands! I got those at Storm Cloud Beads in St. Paul.

Now I’m working on a pair of socks with a beaded anklet. What fun!
