Knitting at 9 with a number 2
I was 6 or 7 years old when my mom taught me to knit. One lonely day, about the time the 5th sibling arrived, yes, by age 9 I was the oldest of 6 siblings, I craved that knitting motion. What to do, what to do? Aha….there’s a pencil….look, another pencil….to my young knit-crazed mind, I saw two pointy sticks! Scrounging around, I found some fiber, a form of plastic masquerading as wool, and the knitting began – on two #2 pencils. Alas, I didn’t knit more than a few rows, for my fingers and the yarn were soon covered in lead.
That began my knitting career!
Luckily I now have a plethora of needles to choose from that don’t poison me with lead and I knit with natural fibers to my heart’s content!

I purchased your Hood with Collar pattern and am having trouble with the number of stitches before I slip the marker on the first set of increase rows.I have an extra stitch beore I come to the marker
Hi Karen,
I’m sorry it has been 4 whole months before I noticed this email! The number of stitches before the marker is one stitch off. . .so work to the marker and continue following the pattern. The numbers are correct after the first row. Once again, please accept my apologies for not gettting back to you sooner!
Shawn I am hoping that you come to our SMDA Women’s Day Out November 15! We would love to have you!
Great job Shawn!! I stubbled upon your blog looking up some knitting stuff for my sister! I was totally shocked!! Good job!
Way to go Shawn!
